The Polite Pig – Disney Springs.

We found ourselves in Disney Springs this lunchtime and realized we had not yet visited The Polite Pig.

Promoted as a Barbecue restaurant serving modern BBQ and taps, the pedigree of The Polite Pig is huge, with sister restaurants such as The Ravenous Pig, Dovecote and Cask & Larder and emanating from local restauranteurs James & Julie Petrakis, all the elements are in place for a great experience.

The restaurant is a quick serve operation with a “Funky” POS system that sort of geo locates where you are seated for food delivery via a tracking device given to you at the cash register. Staff were friendly and efficient, but not much time for interactions on our visit as it had just started raining and the place was packed.

The restaurant has a casual, quirky design and industrial feel that perfectly matches its food theme. The outdoor patio will be great when the heat drops and the sit up bar is a cool place to hang out.

We chose:

New and Improved Fried Chicken SandwichCrisp fried chicken breast, Dukes mayonnaise, hot honey, bread & butter pickles and sweet pepper chow- chow. Perfectly fried juicy chicken breast, take it up a notch with their house hot sauce.

New addition – BBQ Cheddar Sausage HoagieBBQ Cheddar sausage with IPA mustard, pickle relish, peppers and onions. Great new addition to the menu, sure to become a favorite.

Hoagie

To accompany our sandwiches, we chose some great “Market Sides”

BBQ CauliflowerCauliflower, Paprika and sour cream. Yummy cauliflower pieces, the best side we tried.

Crispy Brussel SproutsWhiskey caramel glazed sprouts – You either love or hate sprouts – We loved this version.

Potato Salad – Fingerling potatoes with mustard, smoked kale – Not your usual potato salad but tastes really good.

An unusual but welcome find was the House made Sauce Bar, with varieties such as:

  • Thomas Southern Gold – A mustard & vinegar based tangy sauce. Great with Pork
  • Lil Johns Signature Black Pepper – Tomato based with a hint of honey and a touch of black pepper Great with brisket or ribs. Our favorite, we put this one on everything
  • You can buy a bottle of your favorite sauce to take home.

Great to see local representation in Disney Springs, so if you are looking for change up from the usual burgers or pizza give The Polite Pig a try.
