The Whiskey – 7563 West Sand Lake Road Orlando.

Always on the lookout for a great burger, we headed over to Dr. Phillip’s to try out the offer at The Whiskey.

Set back off Sand Lake Road and part of a strip mall complex in the Dr. Phillips restaurant row area, The Whiskey is like a “Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing” in that the exterior belies the pure “Rock & Roll” interior and upscale “Biker Bar” ambiance.  A long bar runs the length of the restaurant with ample bar seating, a mixture of high top and low dining/drinking options are also available. Burgers are fired from the open grill in the bar back which creates both great theater and a tantalizing aroma throughout the restaurant.

The Whiskey has a great menu with small plates comprising of selections such as Mussels to Pork Belly Sliders, Salads and much more but we were here for the Burgers, we chose:

The BLD – Provolone cheese, Bourbon bacon, Whiskey onions, Sunny side egg & Sriracha aioli.

The Shroom n’ Swiss – grilled Portobello cap mushroom, Swiss cheese, Whiskey onions, Bourbon bacon, & Dill aioli.

All Burgers are served with regular American Fries but there are plenty of options to upgrade, we went for Parmesan Truffle Fries and Whiskey onion rings, both great choices.

The burger patties are a blend of three cuts of beef and ground fresh, so this ticks the first box in my perfect burger requirements. They are then perfectly seasoned and grilled with the correct amount of “Char” (very important) and cooked to your preference, mine being medium rare, juicy and succulent on the inside, tick second box. The buns are toasted and arugula and beefsteak tomato are included, that’s three boxes ticked. Melted Provolone cheese, Bourbon bacon, Egg, Mushroom, Caramelized onions or other accompaniments are induvial preferences but marry perfectly with any burger choice as do other selections on their extensive burger menu.

So, for me The Whiskey burgers tick all the boxes and then some, and worthy of a visit for this fact alone, add in the 100+ brands of Whiskey & Rye’s, Bourbon, Irish Whiskey and Scotch, live music events, happy hour and great service this becomes a must visit for any serious burger aficionado, and what pairs well with a burger?? For me a good slug of Woodford Bourbon hits the spot!
