Wine of the Month – March.

Wine of the Month – March.

New feature for the OFC, starting this month we will be featuring a “Wine of the Month”. Our selections will be based on a variety of criteria ranging from great pricing to excellent quality, to the distinctive and unusual varieties.

So, lots of wine tasting for us, a hard job but somebody has to do it!!

Kicking off this month we are featuring Brancott Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. We tend to favor New Zealand and California for this grape variety and the New Zealand heritage for this wine truly hits the spot. Sauvignon Blanc rose to fame after the wine drinker’s boredom and love affair with Chardonnay started to wain and we entered the ABC phase (anything but Chardonnay). Sauvignon Blanc rose to fill the void and so far, shows no sign of losing that popularity.

Here comes the Sommelier stuff: The wine is pale straw in color with green highlights. This wine has sweet ripe fruit characters with a delightful mix of citrus, floral, pear and tropical fruit and a crisp nettle highlight. This powerful wine is almost pungent in its intensity with full fruit flavors across the spectrum, from ripe tropical fruit to lush pink grapefruit. This is a beautiful, weighty wine that is well-balanced, with sweet fruit flavors and the crisp acidity associated with this style.

What do we like about Brancott Sauvignon Blanc? Well, it’s a great wine to accompany food, especially seafood, but a great social drinking wine that is exciting enough on its own. In addition, the price point is remarkable and can be found in and  around Orlando liquor stores for well below $10 a bottle in some cases.

Brancott Sauvignon Blanc is currently available at Total Wine and More or part of the excellent wine offering at TR Fire Grill. (check for availability).

Try it out this weekend !
