George’s Gourmet Cookies – 501 North Orlando Avenue Winter Park.
When an area such as the expanding Winter Park Shopping Center gets redeveloped and new restaurants and food options arrive, I guess it may be easy to overlook the established businesses who have operated from that location for years. However, this is not the case with George’s Gourmet Cookies. The quality of their food and excellent amazingly friendly “Old School” service will not allow any discerning diner to bypass their quirky location just off Lee road in the area formerly known as the K Mart Plaza.
All customers are greeted as old friends and made to feel right at home, a quality customer service that is sadly lacking in many cafés and restaurants these days. I return time and time again just for this fact alone, but they do make outstanding sandwiches.
Whether you choose a Georges “Specialty” sandwich or a traditional favorite you will get a great sandwich with the same lovingly created freshly made to order ingredients, they also have an award-winning Chili and a wide selection of gourmet salads and cookies, all equally amazing and afforded the same amount of care and dedication.
The standout sandwich for this visit was the VERY popular Homemade Chicken Salad with our preference of multigrain bread. All sandwiches are served with a choice of two sides, so we added coleslaw and a rich creamy homemade potato salad. Not sure you could have filled this sandwich with any more fantastic, fresh ingredients, as they almost busted out of the bread, no skimpy fillings here. All meats are roasted in house and salads made fresh daily.
A testament to their success is that George’s have been serving Central Florida since 1989.
