RusTeak 2625 Edgewater Drive Orlando.

I don’t know why it has taken us so long to visit RusTeak in College Park, but whatever the reason it was well worth the wait.

Edgewater drive has a growing number of restaurants creating itself into a robust eating destination, but of the location, most of the restaurants are right on the street, and you can almost miss them as you drive by and RusTeak is no exception, the exterior giving no indication of the great restaurant that lies within.

So, to avoid confusion RusTeak is located on the corner of Edgewater and W Winter Park Street and has a small amount of private parking to the rear but most times street parking is available if the lot is full.

A covered patio to the front of the building leads you into the main restaurant and bar area, featuring large windows that open out to give that great indoors/outdoors ambience, inviting enough to make you want to stay longer than is probably good for you! Low level dining and booths complete the regular seating options. There is also a private dining area in the middle of the restaurant, which seats circa ten people, ideal for parties or any special occasion. We really liked the location of this private area as you are still in the main restaurant and part of the vibe but with your own space, unlike in some other restaurants where you feel that you are tucked away and somewhat adrift from the experience.

RusTeak promotes itself as a “New American” style restaurant with a casual atmosphere, and I must admit this is exactly what you get. Add in the now expected lunch and dinner featured dishes and the fact that they focus on local produce, provenance and sustainable food sourcing, then they tick all the boxes. RusTeak has also won the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2014, 2015 and 2016 and If the Ponga Sauvignon Blanc recommended by our server is anything to go by, well deserved, and at a very reasonable price point.

The menu includes hand crafted sandwiches, burgers, flatbreads, steak, seafood, pasta and more, covering almost every taste without the menu being too large.

We chose:

Turkey Train – house roasted Turkey breast, melted fontina cheese, crispy maple-pepper bacon, savory bread pudding, finished with a pecan-craisin aioli and served on toasted sourdough bread. This is a mountain of a sandwich and felt like a “Thanksgiving Party” in my mouth, as with all great sandwiches the correct blend of the fillings make this one a winner.

Mahi Out of Control –  grilled Mahi-Mahi with an almond-panko crust, toasted almonds, sautéed shrimp, cherry tomatoes and broccolini topped with a lemon-herb béchamel sauce served over vegetable and potato hash. There is a lot going on in this dish and it would be easy for one part to bring the rest down, but all elements were perfectly cooked and complimented each other, a well thought out dish.

We visited RusTeak for lunch and this was a great choice, but we will be back to sample some more of the menu Items at dinner service and keep you posted. In the meantime, please try RusTeak for yourself, tell them we sent you!
