Toasted – 1945 Aloma Avenue Winter Park.

Here at OFC we are always on the lookout for interesting food options that won’t break the bank, so today popped into Toasted for a takeout lunch, very much on the spur of the moment.

Toasted is located in the Aloma Avenue strip mall and describes itself as an experience based, fast casual brand, focused on elevating a classic American sandwich –namely the grilled cheese.

The menu features speciality crafted Grilled Cheese sandwiches and Burgers with a couple of Salads and a Kids menu. Of course there is an option for Tomato Soup (a perfect paring with any grilled cheese sandwich)

Unusually for a fast casual concept they utilize locally sourced ingredients that are prepared in house, and you can really taste the difference. All bread products are described as being baked daily by a local artisan baker and are completely preservative free, ensuring guests get the freshest food possible.

The Aloma location does not have a large dining area but is clean bright and modern, with ‘Quirky” design elements from Toasted’s take on the Periodic Table i.e. “The Periodic Cheese Table” to the 3D Cheese Wall and Cheese Grater light fixtures.

I have been to similar concepts in Southern Florida, but for me what sets Toasted apart is their attempt to bridge the gap between a regular fast food operation and the ability and desire to offer quality local ingredients normally associated with Gastro Pubs and more elevated dining experiences. They do it very well.

In addition, there is balance in the menu and individual item construction, anyone who has had Cheese Fondue will know what I mean, you cannot just combine and melt any varieties of cheese together and expect a great balanced taste. This is even more prevalent when mixing cheese with other proteins, such as Brisket, Chicken etc. The correct cheese or combination of cheeses has to compliment and not detract from the overall taste experience.

I chose the “Big Cheese” a great combination of Cheddar, Swiss, Muenster and Jack Cheese. In addition, I sampled the “Braised Brisket” which was complimented by Fontina Cheese and Sweet Tea Caramelized Onions. (A Toasted Signature Dish), along with a side of Natural Cut Fries. Both sandwiches were excellent.

Service from Mounique was friendly and professional with my order taking only minutes to prepare.

Insider Tips:

Parking is easy from the Aloma Strip Mall parking lot just outside the restaurant.

Additional Toasted location in Lake Nona.

Gluten Free and Vegan options available.

My tab was a very reasonable $15 and change, and makes Toasted a worthy addition to my list of quality Sandwich and Burger options.
